Hello =]

What have I been up to, lately? Gym, diet, uni work and reading like crazy. My eyes even hurt. I've been busy with many things, but managed to find the time to delight myself with The Plays of Oscar Wilde. I adore the man's writing, the way he words sentences, the characters he creates. I've read The Importance of Being Earnest, A woman of no importance and am halfway through Lady Windermere's fan. I find it fascinating how he inevitably weaves in the plot a character who can speak as eloquently as Wilde himself writes, and who shares his peculiar wit.

Other than that, I've just stopped by to say hello, hug you all and post five Louis, Lestat and Louie/Stat icons:

(25/out/07)EDIT: because I no longer trust LJ with my material, I've moved the five Vampire Chronicles icons.

There are certainly more to come, I've laid my hands on some fine picutres... I can't wait to see what you'll make of them, [livejournal.com profile] phantomparadise! *beams*

I also wish to pass on an admirable iniciative I've seen at [livejournal.com profile] sm_malfoy's journal:

Have You Left Your Comment Today?

[livejournal.com profile] anaid_rabbit and [livejournal.com profile] wide_ocean decided to start a movement to leave more comments and thus brighten up more peoples' lives. Think about how nice it would be if everyone would pledge to leave at least one comment a day that they otherwise wouldn't have left - maybe on a post where they were afraid to say something, or just something nice on a completely random journal.

In short: Take the pledge with us. Leave at least one additional comment on someone's LJ each day, and make the world a better place. Spread the love!

And make sure to post this last bit on your own journal, so that the love may indeed spread.

I love the idea; it's so wonderful coming home to an inbox full of tenderness and warmth.

*huggles lots*

Have not seen to much in fic or art. My list seems to invaded by RL/SB...

Have you seen any thing that is a good read?

I'm sorry to say, but no... I haven't really been visiting communities and the like, just people's journals, because I'm short on time. Sorry >.

Ooooh, I <3 #2 & #3!! Because 2 is so hilariously true and 3 is just beautiful *.* When I first read the book and then watched the movie, I really disliked Cruise as Lestat. But I've come to adore him as our lovely Brat Prince. XD

Mini-rant: Stuart Townsend SUCKS as Lestat!

[identity profile] culuyetille.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, people seem to like #2. I guess Louis has a firm reputation as a whiner... *amused* I think I'll be using that icon myself quite a lot. I like looking at it too.

Well, in truth, I watched the movie before reading the book, so my Lestat has always been Cruise. When I read the book, though, I kept thinking about just how short Cruise was, then I decided that it suited Lestat just fine. He needs some sort of very blatant thing for other people to pick up on.

I've come to adore him as our lovely Brat Prince

Oh, same here. He can twitch his lips to show arrogance like few others, Jason Isaacs maybe.

Hmm... I like Towsend as Leather-Pants Lestat, for some reason. But he can't convey any dramatic depth and therefore, yeah, he sucks. Quite literally, I may add. *evil*

[identity profile] killthwight.livejournal.com 2005-03-10 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Of course he has a reputation for a whiner. He's the resident annoying vampire.

LOL, I find that amusing, since Lestat was supposed to be tall compared to other people when he was born. I think I had a problem with Cruise because Lestat was supposed to be quite young-looking, about 21 I think... Not to mention I imagined Lestat's hair to be a bit silkier, his nose thinner. In terms of characterisation I can't really say what I liked and disliked, because I read the book years and years ago and can't really remember...

Oh no.
Leather-Pants!Lestat = Leather-Pants!Draco = Super-OOCness
Honestly, the movie for QotD was a complete rape to the book. Dear god, it was awful >.< *has a headache just thinking about it*

[identity profile] culuyetille.livejournal.com 2005-03-10 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
He's the resident annoying vampire.

*ROFL* I'm making a new batch of VC icons tonight, mind if I borrow that quote?
Help me find something of the sort for Stat?

Oh, yes, there were details of Cruise that didn't fit, but I think he found the spirit of Lestat, and that's why I liked him so much. Banderas, on the other hand, ruined Armand. Our dearest Little Vampire was much bitchier, had a much worse temper than the calmness Banderas exhaled. Not to mention, Banderas didn't look all of fifteen years old.
I quite liked Pitt as Louis, too. His hair wasn't curly or darkish as it should, but gods, the man can POUT. That's the key word for Louis, so all is good XD

Leather-Pants!Lestat = Leather-Pants!Draco = Super-OOCness

Do you think so? In terms of writing, I agree, but single-shots of Towsend looking smug in his leatherpants are likeable to me...

Honestly, the movie for QotD was a complete rape to the book. Dear god, it was awful >.< *has a headache just thinking about it*

Then don't think about it, dear. The film was horrible. If I were its director or Towsend, I'd be looking over my shoulder every night on terror of one certain blood-thirsty Anne Rice who gets murderous when her characters are 'borrowed'. We all know what happened to the Singer Who Was Too Skinny To Play Akasha....

Sure, you can borrow it if you want XD
I'd say Stat is the resident delinquent vampire. Honestly, the man is insane.

Yeah, Cruise did capture the spirit of Lestat for IwtV. Maybe even if he were to interpret Lestat in some other movie. But book!Lestat will forever be different than Cruise to me.

Oh, Banderas makes a completely different Armand. Armand is supposed to be bitchy when he wants to, he's bitter and he's lost in the world. Not to mention he's supposed to have auburn curls. *grumbles* But I liked movie!Armand nonetheless.

No, no, I just can't picture Lestat in leather pants. That's...That's utterly weird. I can picture him trying it on, curling his lips in disgust, and then throwing the pants in a corner. It doesn't strike me as Lestat-ish. Although from all the vampires, I think he's the likeliest one of the old brood to be seen in leather pants. *giggles at the thought of Leather-Pants!Marius*

I'd say Stat is the resident delinquent vampire. Honestly, the man is insane.

LOL! Stat to me is the resident Impossible vampire. As Gabrielle keeps telling him, he's impossible. He can't be dealt with. All the more fun for us, and more whining for Louis. Not that he'd have any different ;]

I liked movie!Armand nonetheless

Oh, me too. I mean, I like the Armand character they created for the movie. But almost I wish they'd named him something other than Armand...

No, no, I just can't picture Lestat in leather pants. That's...That's utterly weird. I can picture him trying it on, curling his lips in disgust, and then throwing the pants in a corner.

*laughs* And coming out of the trying-room in underpants and shirt only, claiming that if something is to hug his skin that tightly and mark his outlines as sharply, he might as well enjoy the cool night air on his legs and give everyone a view XD
Meanwhile, all the other vamps growl in exasperation & embarrassment. I fancy Louis would even blush, Marius would hide a smile and Armand would go positively berserk. "You can't even buy clothing without making a scene!"

from all the vampires, I think he's the likeliest one of the old brood to be seen in leather pants. *giggles at the thought of Leather-Pants!Marius*

*chuckles* oh, definitely. And I can also see Stat trying to inflict the leather pants on everyone, much to their misery.

Stat to me is the resident Impossible vampire.

Ahhh, that is because you haven't read the other books! A vampire that goes along with an extra-feminist mass murdered, a body exange with a mortal, and goes off treading into heaven and hell is definitely Delinquent to me. *laughs*

OOOOH! and I forgot you haven't met David properly yet!! (Only crappy movie!David that has nothing to do with book!David).

(And I just noticed your layout is positively improper to show in a public computer. *laughs*)

I'll answer more to this comment later, ok? Must go now.

This is going to be my last comment for today. I’ve been giving you a lot of (well-deserved) love, haven’t I? ::grin::

So, you’re going through an Oscar Wilde phase too? Your timing is remarkable. My own drama phase right now is Shakespeare, comedies to be precise, but just today I had a burning desire to watch the film adaptation of The Importance of Being Earnest, and I promptly disregarded my pile of work and popped the DVD in the player. Have you seen it? It’s a wonderful adaptation starring Colin Firth, Rupert Everett, Frances O’Connor, Reese Witherspoon and Dame Judi Dench. Really marvelous. I highly recommend it.

Moving on, I was so pleased to see the Vampire Chronicles icons! ::huggles, huggles,:: Once upon a time I was an enormous VC fan and considered writing fanfiction, but Anne Rice is quite scary when it comes to that department. All the icons are beautiful and they capture the mood and feel of the film/series perfectly. I’ve saved #2 and #3. They’re both priceless. I’m not sure on which journal I’ll use them, but I’m sure to use them sooner or later. (Since that icon representation post, I’ve given the whole process even more thought. ::shakes head::)

And that’s it from me!

For now. ::wink::

This is going to be my last comment for today

Same here. I'll answer your other comments soon, but tonight I'm exhausted... I really wanted to reply to this one, though.

Yes, I'd been going through an Oscar Wilde phase.. but I decided that it was a great mistake to read three or four of his plays in one go. I grew tired not of his style, which I adore, but of the subject he addresses. I don't want to read any more about anybody's "secret&shameful" mother/father.

just today I had a burning desire to watch the film adaptation of The Importance of Being Earnest, and I promptly disregarded my pile of work and popped the DVD in the player. Have you seen it? *smiles* Thumbs up for kicking work every once in a while to do something not productive but which you love. That's the greatest function of the system on our lives: giving us that undescribable pleasure when we bend it ;] And that sounds lovely!! *takes note* I'll look the DVD up!

nce upon a time I was an enormous VC fan and considered writing fanfiction, but Anne Rice is quite scary when it comes to that department.

Honestly, I think that her behaviour is ridiculous. She should be flattered that people love her characters enough to want to work with them. I haven't read the whole series; in fact, just IwtV and The Vampire Lestat. I grew bored with the whole tale of the origin of vampires and I thought the series couldn't get better. If it wouldn't get worse. That hasn't stopped me from reading lots and lots of VC specs, and loving the film-version and iconising it. Hence, I'm flattered that you feel that my icons

capture the mood and feel of the film/series perfectly.

I'm so amused by #2, I'm using it myself. Many people told me that they liked it... if you knew what I went through with that darned 'pout'... I messed with the background so that it would bring Louis forward, but then I couldn't fit the word with the background in a way it would be possible to read and yet not contrast too much. In the end I sort of gave up and settled for a simple font, and it worked. And Louis is such a permanent whiner ;]

Well, darling, I bid you good night now *hugs*

Man, I’ve been doing that ALL BLOODY DAY. It’s past 3pm now and I’ve been slumming on LJ since brunch. It’s taking me forever to catch up on friends’ journals – would you believe I’ve only been to five journals (including yours)? I think it has to do with the fact that I’m leaving a ton of comments. Making up for lost time, I reckon. ::nods, nods::

And that sounds lovely!! *takes note* I'll look the DVD up!

Since I’m reccing Oscar Wilde adaptations, you should also try to find Oliver Parker’s adaptation of An Ideal Husband. It’s equally brilliant, if not more so. (Oliver Parker also did The Importance of Being Earnest.) The cast here is even more spectacular since it features two of my all-time favorite actresses, Cate Blanchett and Julianne Moore. It’s been a few years since I saw it but I recall Jeremy Northam is also there, as in Minnie Driver and Rupert Everett. It’s a really wonderful film. /end rec

Honestly, I think that her behaviour is ridiculous. She should be flattered that people love her characters enough to want to work with them.

I have many views on Anne Rice but I shan’t bombard you with them now. Suffice it to say that while I used to sympathize with her, I now think she’s gone overboard. Ridiculous is a good word. ::wink::

I haven't read the whole series; in fact, just IwtV and The Vampire Lestat. I grew bored with the whole tale of the origin of vampires and I thought the series couldn't get better. If it wouldn't get worse.

The whole series ended badly. I got as far as Book V which was Memnoch the Devil. I completely, utterly hated that book and never forgave her for what she did to the character of Lestat. In one giant sweep she obliterated everything that Lestat, and ultimately the series since it’s his bloody story, stood for. Don’t get me started otherwise this will turn into an all-out rant. Anyway, I haven’t touched any of the newer books, what she’s stylized as The New Vampire Chronicles or some other such nonsense. And this will also sound petty now, but I think her writing style has deteriorated. If I was being charitable, I’d say that it’s evolved. At any rate, I don’t like what it’s evolved into. I won’t get started on this point either.

::takes a big, deep, calming breath::

I'm so amused by #2, I'm using it myself. Many people told me that they liked it... if you knew what I went through with that darned 'pout'... - - Well, the pout turned out perfectly! I’m sure the icon is being put to plenty of good use. ::wink::

LOL, yes I do believe you... I'm dreading the day I stop simply comment-replying and decide to catch up. It'll take forever. But time simply _flies_ when I'm around LJ, it's unbelievable... I think I'm too lucky with my f-list.

two of my all-time favorite actresses, Cate Blanchett and Julianne Moore.

goodness, they're two of my favourites as well!! Not only are both very charming, each in her own way, and brilliant actresses, but they have... a special taste for choosing roles and films they want to work on. Kinda like Pitt or Kidman. My favourite Moore performance (since I'm too chicken to watch The Hours) remains Far from heaven... have you seen it? It's such a gorgeous production, with a consistent plot and beautiful, autumn-ish colours.

*takes note of rec*

I have many views on Anne Rice but I shan’t bombard you with them now.

that's ok, as long as you promise me that you WILL voice those views to me some day. I'm curious like that *winks*

*nods* that's what I heard, and frankly, I don't much care for having good characters butchered so I never did read the rest of the series. I already disliked the whole 'vampire origin' she came up with at The Vampire Lestat, to be honest. =p

oh, totally random: I dreamed about you during Easter. It was really odd. Had something to do with me getting wrong mail, it was supposed to be delivered to the part of the city (..my city. but hey, dreams are dreams, right?) I knew you lived in, so I just drove over and waited for you to arrive. We had a long chat together and it was fun. ^___^ ..I could never see your face though. *sighs* That truly bothers me. People I have never actually met, I can't see them even in dreams. I guess it must have to do with my brain not really being familiar with their expressions so it doesn't venture trying to 'make' a conversation seem real.

Ditto. One of my favorite films of that year. I thought that was her Oscar performance, but due to the politics I’m so aware of I also knew she wouldn’t win. >_< She will in the future though, even if it’s just a ‘make-up’ Oscar as I like to call them, kinda like the one Cate Blanchett won this year (she thoroughly deserved in) when she should’ve won years ago for Elizabeth. Whenever I think of Gwyneth Paltrow winning for Shakespeare in Love I grow livid. ::takes a deep breath::

I already disliked the whole 'vampire origin' she came up with at The Vampire Lestat, to be honest. =p
This bit I liked and it really came to fruition in The Queen of the Damned. I gave her a lot of credit for that because she essentially came up with her own mythology and it was quite convincing. I felt Anne Rice was at her best when she was doing historical fiction. The images, the scenarios, the time element, and the level of research that she did, suit the denseness of her prose well. The more modern the time period becomes, the more her prose suffers.

oh, totally random: I dreamed about you during Easter.
::smile:: I think this is sweet. Odd, but sweet. You’re the second person on my flist to have dreamed about me. ::sigh:: I wish I remembered my dreams . . .

*nods so much her neck aches* I don't know about the Philippines, but here in Brazil very very few people have watched Far from Heaven. Sad, really.
I almost get the idea behind make-up Oscars, but they still make me angry. I know it's difficult to choose when there is more than one great film on a particular cathegory, but that doesn't have to snowball into ruining the next year's awards... and about Paltrow. Gah >.< Only two women worse than her are Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock, because they're equally as acting-clueless but get double exposure.

Hmm, I can't say much, really, because I didn't read enough books. But the vampire origin story didn't convince me in the least. She simply threw the problem to a, say, older entity (the spirits). I do prefer it when she writes characters' perspectives on the world, relationships, themselves and each other. She has a good enough grasp on mindwork.

I wish I remembered my dreams . . .

*shrugs* I'm reading this book entitled The social production of madness. Three quarters of it is dedicated to giving notions of psychanalysis (sp?), starting with Freud and comprehending many authors who dedicated themselves to the matter. It's all quite terrifying and I'm nearly growing weary of my dreams.
