Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt. 1
Last sunday my potterish cousin and I went to the movies. HP7 was sold out but we resorted to what's becoming our usual plan: buying tickets for another film then sneaking in to see what we want to. Somehow there wasn't anybody complaining about not having their rightful seat. Aaaand, we enjoyed ourselves immensely :)
The film was pleasantly faithful to the book. They even kept Fred and George's "we're identical!" joke ♥
The action & chasing scenes were excellent, but this time the actors' performances were definitely the highlight. I loved seeing the worn out death eaters (oh, stubbly Lucius! And the circles around Draco's eyes, marvellous), the Lovegoods, Helena Bonham-Carter stealing the scene... Bill Nighy's brief moments on screen were superb. I didn't think he'd be able to pull off Scrimgeour's imposing stance, being so thin, but of course I was wrong =)
What I loved most of all was the trio's long and unproductive wandering. I remember that it was one of my favourite aspects of the book, how difficult it was for them to be out of Hogwarts - adventure had always found them before - how close and how annoyed at each other they got. It was in DH that I learned to love Hermione for her courage, resilience and warm heart. Chris Columbus made a brilliant choice casting Daniel, Emma and Rupert. They deliver the emotional intensity as wonderfully as the action and humour scenes.
The landscapes chosen, besides illustrating the trio's isolation, were gorgeous.
All in all: I laughed with Ron, felt my heart tighten with Hermione, jumped when Nagini lunged at Harry's head at Godric's Hollow and was touched by Dobby's death.
Can't wait for part 2.
